Cayuga and Seneca lakes, both more than 35 mi (56 km) long, are the largest and deepest lakes. Keuka Lake is the center of the New York state wine industry. Fertile soil and hillside locations receiving a maximum amount of sunshine make the Finger Lakes an important viticulture and truck-farming region. Skaneateles and Hemlock lakes are the source of water for Syracuse and Rochester, respectively. The Finger Lakes region is a major recreation area with many resorts and state parks.
